In Japan, more people want to have a beautiful but inconspicuous nose, so called ‘Wasure Bana’ meaning ‘Forgotten Nose’. It means that when you look at someones face, the nose does not stand out, but rather blends in beautifully with the face. The procedure to obtain popular ‘forgotten nose’ look may seem simple, but achieving it correctly is actually quite challenging. In some ways, it’s a lot easier to create an extremely sharp nose than creating the beautiful ‘forgotten nose’ . Here’s how to achieve this subtle yet refined look.
This patient requested “a beautiful, slightly upturned nose, but with a natural appearance.”
When comparing the before and after photos in this case, it’s clear that there’s an improvement, but identifying exactly what changed is difficult for those who aren’t specialists.
However, upon closer examination, you’ll find that creating a beautiful ‘forgotten nose’ involves many hidden details. How can you achieve a natural yet aesthetically pleasing result?
First, it’s essential to create a smooth curve from the nasal bridge to the tip. Achieving this without using implants requires advanced skills. Next, it’s important to elevate the hidden base of the alar (nostril wings). Additionally, lifting the columella (the tissue between the nostrils) to create a harmonious angle between the lip and columella is crucial.
By bringing out the hidden features of the nose, the face appears more three-dimensional, resulting in a softer nasolabial fold, and the overall facial impression improves dramatically with just nasal surgery. (Effects of procedures like C-Curve formation, paranasal and collumella augumentation are naturally achieved when the correct nasal surgery is performed, but these days, the focus is often solely on the procedures themselves.)
As you can see, even though it’s called nasal surgery, it affects not only the nose but also the overall appearance of the face. Without understanding these nuances, simply inserting a PCL ball or threads into the nasal tip or randomly grafting cartilage is not recommended for either the surgeon or the patient.
